Sitting, talking

Let's assume we're all intelligent, creative and resourceful beings, and we all want the best for ourselves and those around us. Well then, is your world precisely as you want it to be? Is your job exactly what you want to be doing with your life? Or will it do? Does it have enough stability and distraction to smooth over the cracks?

Who do you have to be to claim and shape the world as you want it? How would you stand; how would you respond when people look at you? Above all, what would you do if every day was yours to play with?

My guess is that you are a fantastic example of humanity - even if you don't quite believe it (maybe that's precisely what makes you so). My hunch also is that you could do with a bit of time to think through the possibilities. After all, have you ever taken them (or yourself) seriously before?

Maybe you have thought it all through and come up with goals. Congratulations! How far have you got with them? What's been getting in the way? (Here's another guess - you have thought it through, dared to think big, and then those same thoughts turned on you, gently and reasonably at first, ultimately keeping you right where you are now.)

We are our own best doubters, so let's side-step that. Let's talk heart instead. Or body. What does your gut say about you and your dreams? Your longing? In which direction does Love point you? Which course feels right at a deep instinctual level?

Here's what I want. That you accept my offer of time and space to look within, to remember what's true and important for you; that through honest and direct conversation, you get to uncover your deepest hopes (how did they start - "I want to be a fireman? A squirrel?") and get to notice who you are when you converse with that part of yourself again.

I offer space, not just to listen, but to ask the questions that you haven't yet, to call the bullshit when you can't, to believe and champion when you daren't. Fancy it? It can be breath-taking, exhilarating, and terrifying all at once; it is deeply satisfying, and unifying.

I'm sitting in a café as I write this, looking around at intelligent people deep in conversations. But as I listen more closely they are soothing each other, re-hashing old stories and grievances, conspiring with each others' limitations. Just one man behind me is almost shouting he's so passionate about his conversation. The energy in his corner of the room is higher and more vibrant than anywhere else.

Where would you sit? Whatever your answer, please contact me. I’d love to hear what and why.

Thanks for reading.
